2018: Logocentrism in Islamic Education in Indonesia: Critical Study through Maqasid Shari'ah of Jasser Auda

Islam is encouraging education for its adherents. The education is general education such as natural, social and humanities science or religious education such as „āqidah, akhlāq, jurisprudence and exegesis. In Indonesia, Islamic education is well facilitated, since early age until college. But, Islamic education in Indonesia gets so many challenges. One of the challenges is logocentrism that is education that only emphasizes on the religion issues. This research uses descriptive-analytical method that is describing and analyzing the tradition of logocentrism in the Islamic education. Theory used is maqāṣid sharī„ah of Jasser Auda. The theory is prioritizing the contextual side of the Koran and Sunna rather than the textual side. The results are show that logocentrism is still strong in the Islamic education in Indonesia. Besides, maqāṣid sharī„ah can be an alternative in reconstructing the Islamic education in Indonesia.

2020: Shi'ite Islam, Nationalism and Transnationalism: An Analysis on Twelver Shi'ite Islam in Indonesia

When Muhammad died, first political dispute was about whether the right to lead was Muhajirin or Ansar. This political debate then propagated to kinship problem so that when Mu'awiyyah bin Abu Sufyan became Caliph replacing Ali and then appoint his son, Yazid, there was a dispute between the Umayyads and Ahlul Bait of Prophet Muhammad. Those who are faithful to Ahlul Bait of the Prophet are then known as Shi’ites. Today, the majority of Shi’ites is Imamiyah (Twelver). This Shi'ite school continues to flourish and survive. Currently, Imami Shi’ites led by na'ib who is also called wilayat faqih. The idea of wilayat faqih was initiated by Musavi Khomeini (Imam Khomeini) in replacing the ideology that the Pahlavi had long held for a long time. Since the Iranian Revolution of 1979, using wilayat faqih, Khomeini has succeeded in applying the Islamic system into state territory and transformed Persia Pahlavi into the Islamic Republic of Iran.

2021: School-centric Islamic education in Indonesia: A deconstructive analysis of Muhammad Abed Al-Jabiri

Violent acts committed by Islamic fundamentalists at the ideological level in Indonesia have become frequent nowadays. In this article, we examine the extent to which Islamic education is implemented in Indonesia in relation to the impacts of global fundamentalism at large. The term " Islamic education " in Indonesia does not only mean formal Islamic education but also Islamic education in the form of religious guidance (fatwa), which is especially provided by Majelis Ulama Indonesia (Indonesian Ulema Council). Islamic education also comes from Islamic writing. In this study, we carry out deconstructive hermeneutics of Muhammad Abed Al-Jabiri to examine the origin of Islamic writing in Indonesia. We find that Islamic education in Indonesia is school-centric (mazhab-centric), resulting in the school receiving new ideas of fundamentalism aimed at triggering violent acts by the fundamentalists. The results show a correlation between the violent acts committed by the Islamic fundamentalists and the Islamic education in Indonesia. To solve this problem, schools must develop moral consciousness to refer to the teachings of Qur'an, instead of the school-centric ones.
